THE UNP JOINS THE INTERNATIONAL STRIKE OF WOMEN
On March 8 International Women’s Day is celebrated, a date to claim equality and non-discrimination based on gender, within this framework, the National University of Pilar through a Resolution declares its support for the third international strike of women.
Said decision was assumed by the Rector of the UNP, Prof. Dr. Víctor Ríos considering that in the city of Pilar at the request of groups of organized women of the community, they will carry out activities in the Municipal Sports Center «Roberto Cabañas».
Dr. Ríos indicated that to the extent that women are recognized, respected, valued and have equal conditions and opportunities, we will have a democratic society.
Through the document, the members of the different estates and officials are urged to participate in the actions planned for the date.
The objective of the international strike is the same as in previous years and is intended to be a day to make visible the importance of the tasks that women do every day around the world and normalize so much that they do not even consider work; as domestic chores.
There are still many rights to fight to achieve real equality between women and men throughout the world, so mobilizations of this nature are necessary to reduce inequality gaps.
HISTORY: On February 28, 1909, the first National Women’s Day was held in the United States following a declaration by the Socialist Party. The following year, the Socialist International, meeting in Copenhagen, proclaimed the international character of this day to pay tribute to the movement that fought for women’s rights and to support universal women’s suffrage. However, it was not until March 8, 1975, that the United Nations recognized and celebrated International Women’s Day for the first time.
