ATILIO BORÓN WILL BE DISTINGUISHED AT THE UNP
At the initiative of the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Technologies and Arts (FCTA), Dr. Ever Villalba, the University Superior Council of the National University of Pilar (UNP) unanimously accepted the proposal to award with the title Dr. Honoris Causa to Atilio Borón.
The decision was informed to the argentine political scientist, sociologist and writer, by the Rector of the UNP, Prof. Dr. Víctor Ríos during the book fair held in the City of Buenos Aires, at which Borón presented his most recent work «El Sorcerer of the Tribe. Mario Vargas Llosa and Liberalism in Latin America «.
Dr. Borón accepted the distinction and the act will be held on September 23 at the headquarters of the National University of Pilar and the next day will be giving talks and lectures.
The proposal for the distinction states that the academic enjoys a recognized professional career and intellectual quality in the field of Social Sciences, with a marked social commitment and contributions in the national and international academic field.
Also expresses that he has received several honors and awards in recognition of his scientific contribution and outstanding work for Latin American integration.
Also mentions that on the occasion of the times of crisis of the UNP, he was one of the intellectuals who showed interest in the persecution towards the house of studies, for being a fervent defender of democracy and Latin American freedom.
Atilio Borón is a sociologist, political scientist, professor and argentine writer. Doctor in Political Science from Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts). He is a professor at the University of Buenos Aires and a researcher at CONICET.
He is the author of several books on social science and philosophy with a Marxist orientation and with a clear political commitment to commitment to socialism for Latin America. Of his most recognized publications include «After the owl of Minerva. Market against democracy in capitalism at the end of the century «(2000),» New world hegemony. In 2009 he was awarded by UNESCO with the José Martí International Award for his contribution to the unity and integration of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
He is currently a professor of Political and Social Theory at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires since 1986, senior researcher at CONICET (National Council for Scientific and Technical Research) and director of the PLED (Latin American Program of Distance Education in Social Sciences ). He also works as a columnist in various media and as a lecturer. He’s also currently an organic intellectual of the Communist Party of Argentina and has always had a clear political commitment, with a vast academic career being for 9 years Executive Secretary of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences CLACSO between 1997 and 2006.
